Ever since, Charles William Bovis started up his company in London in 1885 the business continues a tradition of Great British building which lives on in Bovis Homes to this day. Meet our people
Ella Hammond
Strategic Planning & Development Coordinator
I joined Bovis Homes in July 2014 as a Business Administration Apprentice reporting into the Strategic Land Team. As well as general receptionist duties, I gained experience working with Sales Advisors and the Technical department but spent most of my time becoming involved in land acquisition and the planning process. The Bovis team welcomed me into the fold and encouraged me to utilise my skills to the best of my abilities to grow and learn. Whilst supported by the Bovis team and the Learning & Development department, I achieved a Level 2 NVQ in Business Administration during my apprenticeship.
A year later, and once I had completed the Level 2 business apprenticeship, I was successful in securing a permanent role as Strategic Land Administrator and went on to completing a further business administration apprenticeship at Level 3.
It was then that I undertook additional studies in Town Planning Technical Support at Level 3 which was supported by the Bovis Homes Educational Sponsorship policy.
I now sit within the Strategic Land Team as part of Bovis Homes Central Services covering the businesses wide area as Strategic Land and Development Coordinator. I look forward to continuing to progress in my career and aim to take on additional responsibilities, once I have completed my level 3 studies, so that I may have a long, successful and rewarding career with Bovis Homes.
Adam Elvin
Project Manager, Western Region
I applied to join Bovis in 2010 and was successful in gaining a place on their Apprenticeship Scheme as a trainee carpenter. I worked four days per week with one day study release where I attended the local college and was successful in completing NVQ Level 2&3 in carpentry. During this time I received full support from the site management team, Learning and Development Department and Area Build Manager.
Bovis Homes recognised my ability and commitment to the business and in 2013 I was successful in receiving promotion to the position of Assistant Site Manager where I continued my training to become a fully-fledged Site Manager in November 2014, it was then that I was responsible for my very first site.
In 2016 and 2017 I won the Pride in the Job award at the Kemble site.
My attitude, effort and commitment have been recognised once again and I achieved further promotion earlier in 2017 to the role of Project Manager.
Bovis Homes helped shape my career from apprentice to taking full responsibility for the sites and build projects in my region.
Stefan Perera
Junior Surveyor, South East Region
I joined Bovis Homes in March 2014 on a casual contract as Payroll Assistant and was offered a permanent contract a few months later. In November 2015 I applied to transfer department to the, what was then, Eastern Commercial Team as Payment Clerk and was successful in my application. Whilst in this role I have been given the opportunity to develop myself and my career. I commenced HNC studies in Quantity Surveying in September 2016 which the company has sponsored – I am due to complete studies in May 2018. The two year course has allowed me to gain further knowledge within this environment and widen my experience within the construction industry. I have most recently been successful in achieving promotion to the role of Junior Surveyor within the new South East Region.
Bovis Homes have given me the opportunity to choose my career which has driven me to succeed in this chosen area. I am fully supported by the management team who offer support and guidance as necessary. I look forward to a long and rewarding career with Bovis Homes Limited.
Dave Russell
Area Build Manager, Southern Counties Region
I joined Bovis Homes in 2009 as a Materials Controller within the South West Region and was quickly promoted to the position of Assistant Site Manager. I then achieved further promotion to Site Manager and then Area Build Manager, all within just 5 years of joining the company. My hard work and determination had certainly been noticed by Bovis Homes, and in particular Mark Sexton who believed in me and through my commitment fully supported me to unlocked my potential – if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be where I am now. My career has been developed through the Bovis Homes learning and development programmes and I have been successful in achieving my career aspirations.
In February 2017 I decided to leave the company for pastures new. Within a week I realised I had made a huge mistake and was lucky enough to secure the role of Area Build Manager within the Southern Counties Region of the business. I re-joined the business just 4 weeks after leaving: sometimes people throw away something good for something better, only to find out later that good was actually good enough and better never even came close.
Yasmin Mogaji
Programme Manager, Northern Home Counties
I joined Bovis Homes in January 2017 in the role of Build Secretary for Northern Home Counties Region which is based in Milton Keynes. The region was relatively new and experiencing many different changes. My skills and commitment to Bovis Homes were soon recognised by Peter Stone the Regional Build Director.
Within just 9 months I was successful in achieving promotion to the role of Build Programme Manager. Encouraged by my Build Director, Peter Stone and mentored by Robert Matthews and other Area Build Directors, I have been able to utilise the skills picked up working for NHBC in the Health & Safety and Engineering departments and latterly as PA to the Head of Technical Services.
The promotion has given me the opportunity to “build” on my background whilst constantly learning new skills with close liaison with other Build Programmers, Area Build Directors and Site Managers. I find the construction industry a stimulating environment to work in and this opportunity is truly exciting, opening-up a whole new chapter to my career!
Richard Price
Head of Surveying, Western Region
I initially joined Bovis in 2006 as a part time sales manager working weekends and holidays whilst I was at university studying for my Building Surveying degree. It was a sandwich course with the third year to be spent on a placement working within industry so in 2008 I moved across from sales into commercial to work as a Commercial Assistant on a fixed term contract. I then returned to University to complete my final year and thankfully once I graduated returned to Bovis and was offered a permanent contract as Assistant Buyer. I received all the necessary support and guidance in my new role from my manager and the wider team and just one year later progressed to the position of Buyer.
Given the nature of my degree course and the importance of CPD I was then given one site to run as a surveyor alongside my buying responsibilities.
A year later I was successful again in receiving further promotion to Quantity Surveyor, it was here that I took on additional responsibility to mentor trainees within the department to develop my man management skills.
Bovis Homes have given me the opportunity to build my career and my hard work and determination has recently secured me the role of Head of Surveying working in a department that I have helped shape for the future. I could not have asked for more support from my colleagues and management in helping me progress and provide me with opportunities.
Staff recognition awards
Each year Bovis Homes celebrate its staff’s individual and team success by hosting a recognition award ceremony.
The ceremony is designed to recognise the commitment and dedication of those who have excelled in the last 12 months and beyond.
There are many award categories recognising a variety of skills and experience across our business. These include accolades for Health & Safety, innovation and outstanding achievement, as well as best Sales Advisor and Apprentice.
A panel of Senior Directors decide the winners, with awards being presented by a member of the panel on the night. The event is attended by Directors, Senior Managers, award nominees and Bovis Homes winners of NHBC Awards.
